The “gateway effect” is a theory according to which vaping encourages non-smokers, particularly minors, to start smoking. To date, no serious study has confirmed this effect. This theory, and the principle of precaution with which it is associated, do, however, serve to justify the placing of restrictions on the use of e-cigarettes.
